Colour products typically fall in to the following categories:
Level 1: Semi-Permanent Colour
Semi-permanent dyes use direct, pre-developed colour molecules, which remain on surface of the hair. Consequently this category of colours wash out after 12 shampoos.
Level 2: Demi-Permanent Colour
Demi-permanent colours typically wash out in 24 shampoos and are gentle on the hair.
Level 3: Permanent colour
Great for long-lasting vibrant colour as it locks the colour pigments deep within the hair’s inner structure. Shifts in tonal level are also possible during the colouring process creating vibrant colour results. Bleach is actually classified as a permanent colour although it works by reducing the amount of colour pigments in the hair. Permanent colours typically don’t wash out, they grow out.
Top tip: if you fancy a big change it’s best not to leap straight in with a permanent colour, instead use a semi-permanent option to see if you can ‘live’ with it first.
